16th Century Italian Bandistock Axe / Spear
This Brandistock also referred to as a “Buttafuori” originates from one of the the famous arms smiths in the Northern Italian states
Used by both civilian and military, it was a hidden defence weapon and was one of the inventive designs from the period.
It is made with a concave spear almost a meter long which is hidden in the shaft, this pull out blade can be released by using momentum. The axe and pick allowed for close combat fighting and the spear allowed the weapon to have a double function and could be used against mounted cavalry.
While the weapon is simplistic it does have quiet interesting engraving on the head and spear. A beautiful piece of craftsmanship and ingenuity from the 16th century.
