Rare 14th – 15th Century European Knights sword (most probably of French origin)
This type is the very quintessence of the age-old cut and thrust fighting sword.
These swords are super rare when they are in a fine state of preservation. Most swords are recovered from the earth and rivers and are simple skeletons. This particular sword has all original parts with no loose fitting.
The hilt has the original grip, the leather was well persevered over its life. even though the leather is antique it is very likely has been changed over its long life
The guard is fitted with a set of curved quillons.
The sword blade and pommel are perfectly fitted with no looseness or wobble present.A rounded pommel fits perfectly on the sword making it a very effective counter balance. With a weight of 1.3 kg it is superbly balanced and maneuverable. The pommel on either side has a silver coin inserted, these coins are dated from 1380-1422 and where minted for King of France Charles VI. This is a very good indication of the age of this sword.
The blade is a double edge design with hollow ground cross section, the overall condition is excellent.
Truly a rarely seen sword of Museum quality!
